William "Bill" Heiter, 80, died February 1, 2009 at Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice, Wichita, Kansas. He was born July 25, 1928 at Swea City, Iowa, the son of Arthur and Fern (Richards) Heiter. He married Shirley Ruhe December 28, 1964 at Larned, Kansas. A retired farmer for L. F. Harper, Mr. Heiter was a resident of Great Bend and Hoisington most of his life. He was a United States Army veteran. Mr. Heiter was a member of the American Legion and NRA. Survivors include his wife, Shirley Heiter, of the home; one son: Bill Phillips and wife, Sheila, Hoisington, Kansas; one daughter, Pamela Pelster and husband, Mark, Great Bend, Kansas; one brother, John Heiter, Independence, Missouri; four grandchildren: Brian Dewberry, Great Bend, Kansas; DeWayne Phillips, Hoisington, Kansas; April Scheuerman, Great Bend, Kansas; and Erin King, Leawood, Kansas; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Kenneth Heiter, Theodor Heiter, and Robert Heiter. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, February 5, 2009 at Bryant Funeral Home with the Reverend Dick Ogle officiating. Burial will be in Great Bend Cemetery. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 4, 2009 and from 9:00 a.m. to service time, Thursday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice, in care of the funeral home.
