Walter F. Hurst, 73, died April 24, 2009 at his North Las Vegas, Nevada, home. He was born January 4, 1936 at Great Bend, Kansas, the son of William "Tim" and Hilda (Trauer) Hurst. A Great Bend High School graduate in the Class of 1954, Mr. Hurst was a typesetter, working for the Great Bend Tribune, Colorado Springs Gazette Telegraph, and the Las Vegas Review Journal. He was a resident of Las Vegas since 1989, coming from Colorado Springs. Mr. Hurst was a member of the Argonne Rebels Drum and Bugle Corps in the 1950's. Survivors include one son, Michael; one sister, Dorothy "Dot" Tournear, Great Bend, Kansas; four grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one brother, Eugene Hurst. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, May 2, 2009 at Bryant Funeral Home with the Reverend Dick Ogle officiating. Burial will be in Great Bend Cemetery. Friends may call from 3:00 to 9:00 p.m., Friday, May 1, 2009, with the family receiving friends from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m., at Bryant Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Hurst Memorial Fund, in care of the funeral home.
