Virginia Marie Hayes, 88, died April 28, 2009 at Alterra Sterling House of Great Bend, Great Bend, Kansas. She was born March 29, 1921 at Barton County, Kansas, the daughter of Edward C. and Myrtle M. (Pettit) Koopman. She married Walter W. Hayes November 14, 1942 at Great Bend. He died January 10, 1977. A resident of Great Bend most of her life, Mrs. Hayes was a former library assistant in Elkhart, Kansas, and clerk for the Barton County Treasurers Office. Mrs. Hayes was a member of First United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, and the American Legion Argonne Post 180 Auxiliary, all of Great Bend. Survivors include one daughter, Marilyn Rensch and husband, Brent, Great Bend, Kansas; one brother, Ed L. Koopman, Great Bend, Kansas; two grandchildren: Amber Brokar and husband, Jeremy; and Megan Rensch, all of Wichita, Kansas; and Madison and Caden Brokar. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, April 30, 2009 at Bryant Funeral Home with the Reverend Gary Brooks officiating. Burial will be in Great Bend Cemetery. Friends may call from 1:00 to 9:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 29, 2009 at Bryant Funeral Home.
