Vernon J. Bellendir, 77, died August 11, 2008 at Via Christi St. Francis Regional Medical Center, Wichita, Kansas. He was born February 2, 1931 at Victoria, Kansas, the son of Adam and Catherine (Brungardt) Bellendir. He married Elvira "Vera" Basgall May 7, 1951 at Loretto, Kansas. Mr. Bellendir was a retired farm store manager for Coop. He was a resident of Great Bend since 1955 after serving with the United States Army during the Korean War. Survivors include his wife, Vera Bellendir, of the home; one son, Brian Bellendir, Great Bend, Kansas; two daughters, Lynee Habiger and husband, James, Kinsley, Kansas; and Tracy Ummen and husband, Mark, Springfield, Virginia; one brother, Marvin Bellendir, Victoria, Kansas; three sisters: Bernadette Baier, LaCrosse, Kansas; Rita Scheck, Russell, Kansas; and Miriam Wasinger, Victoria, Kansas; and six grandchildren: Audrey Bellendir, Adam Bellendir, Megan Habiger, Clayton Habiger, Christopher Ummen, and Sarah Ummen. He was preceded in death by three brothers. Vigil service with Knights of Columbus Rosary will be at 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 13, 2008 at Bryant Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, August 14, 2008 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. Father Reginald A. Urban will be celebrant. Burial will be in Great Bend Cemetery. Friends may call from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 13, 2008 at Bryant Funeral Home. Memorials in Mr. Bellendir's name are requested to the Prince of Peace Parish, in care of the funeral home.
