Verna Mae Varah, 86, died March 17, 2010 at Central Kansas Medical Center, Great Bend, Kansas. She was born April 2, 1923 at rural Dartmouth, Kansas, the daughter of Jake and Iva Mae (Lacey) Hartshorn. She married William T. Varah December 21, 1956 at Hoisington, Kansas. He died October 6, 1999. A homemaker, Mrs. Varah was a lifetime resident of Barton County, Kansas. Mrs. Varah was a member of the Christian Church, Hoisington. Survivors include one son, Jake William "Bill" Varah I and wife Maggie, Great Bend; two daughters: Louise Varah, Great Bend; and Donna Jackson, Laclede, Missouri; and three grandchildren: L. J. Varah, Jake William Varah II, and Kelli Louise Varah. She was preceded in death by a grand-daughter Sequoia Richardson; two brothers, Glenn Hartshorn and John Hartshorn; and two sisters, Velma Fincham and Lois Brack. Private family inurnment will be at a later date in Hoisington Cemetery. There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. Memorials are requested to the Golden Belt Humane Society, in care of Bryant Funeral Home. Bryant Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
