Velda L. Brittain, 76, took her last breath at home surrounded by family, December 6, 2011. She was born August 12, 1935 at Cushing, Oklahoma, the daughter of Walter and Arkie (Bunch) McMahan. She was a graduate of Cushing High School. She married Robert L. "Bob" Brittain January 1, 1954 at Cushing. Mrs. Brittain was a Great Bend resident since 1957, coming from Cushing. She worked in medical records at CKMC for twenty-one years. She and Bob then owned and operated Brittains Western Wear for thirty-one years, retiring in January 2011. Survivors include her husband, Robert L. "Bob" Brittain, of the home; three sons: Leon Brittain and his wife Loretta, Colorado Springs, Colorado; Randy Brittain, Great Bend; and Rick Brittain and his fiance Heidi Erdman, Great Bend; one sister, Ruby Hildebrand, Wagoner, Oklahoma; two grandsons: Austin Brittain of the United States Navy, stationed in Japan; and Adrian Brittain, Canon City, Colorado; and two great-granddaughters. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers. A private family service will be held at a later date. Bryant Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
