Roy Raymond Dirks, 90, died October, 9, 2007 at Great Bend Health and Rehabilitation Center, Great Bend, Kansas. He was born December 18, 1916 at Pawnee Rock, Kansas, the son of Jacob and Carrie Ratzliff Dirks. He was a self employed farmer. Mr. Dirks was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Army in the China, Burma, India Theatre. He was a member of Bergthal Mennonite Church, Pawnee Rock, Kansas; V.F.W. Post 3111; American Legion Argonne Post 180; and Barber Shoppers. Survivors include his wife, Mary of the home; two sons, Glen E. Dirks of Great Bend, and Gene F. Dirks of Wichita, Kansas; and two sisters, Evelyn Dirks of Newton, Kansas and Mattie Smith of Phoenix, Arizona. Roy was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth Dirks, three brothers, Chester, Dan, and Harvey Dirks and two sisters, Mae Anderson and Fern Smith. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Friday, October 12, 2007 at Bryant Funeral Home, Great Bend, Kansas. Interment will be in Great Bend Cemetery, Great Bend, Kansas with full military rites conducted by the Fort Riley Honor Guard. Visitation will be Thursday, October 11, 2007, from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Bryant Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to Bergthal Mennonite Church or Alzheimer's Association in care of the funeral home.
