Richard E. Newick, 42, died September 16, 2012 in Barton County, Kansas, as the result of a motor vehicle accident. He was born March 4, 1970 at Reading, England, the son of Eric and Lorraine (Baker) Newick. He married Shonda Wilburn November 13, 1998 at Great Bend, Kansas. A Great Bend resident for sixteen years, coming from Chepstow, England, Mr. Newick was a Kansas Board of Emergency Services certified MICT, working for Russell County EMS and Midwest Life Team. He had previously worked for the Great Bend Fire Department. He was an American Heart Association Basic Life Support instructor and Heartsaver instructor, an Emergency Pediatric Care instructor, and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support instructor. Survivors include his wife, Shonda Newick, of the home; mother and step-father, Lorraine and Frank James, Chepstow, England; two sons: Cody Newick and Eric Newick, both of the home; one daughter, Haley Newick, of the home; and mother and father-in-law, Sandy and Reen Berges, Great Bend. Memorial service will be at 11:00 a.m., Monday, September 24, 2012 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Great Bend. The Reverend James A. Strasen will officiate. Inurnment will be in Great Bend Cemetery North. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., Thursday, September 20, 2012 and from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Friday, September 21, 2012 at Bryant Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials are requested to the Children's Education Fund, in care of the funeral home.
