Reta Marie Hood, 86, died March 19, 2012 at Hays Medical Center, Hays, Kansas. She was born February 25, 1926 at Bison, Kansas, the daughter of Jacob and Bertha (Packard) Decker. She married Melvin Hood March 12, 1949 at Newkirk, Oklahoma. He died December 1, 1997. A longtime Hoisington, Kansas, resident, Mrs. Hood was a registered nurse for Hays Medical Center and Central Kansas Medical Center, Great Bend for forty-three years, retiring in 1988. Mrs. Hood was a member of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Days Saints and TOPS, Great Bend; and VFW Post #7428 Ladies Auxiliary, Hoisington. She loved to play cards, BINGO, and dominoes. Survivors include three sons: Jason Hood, Peabody, Kansas; Dr. Jerry Hood and his wife Betty, Austin, Texas; and Jeff Hood, Sr., and his wife Betty, Great Bend; two daughters: Janet Hood, Hoisington; and Jolene Helmick, Wichita, Kansas; two sisters: Barbara Decker, Topeka, Kansas; and Shirley Peterson, Tucson, Arizona; seventeen grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, Charles Hood; and three brothers, Kenneth Decker, Marvin Decker, and Melvin Decker. Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m., Saturday, March 24, 2012 at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home officiated by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m., Friday, March 24, 2012 and from 9:00 a.m. to service time, Saturday, at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home. Burial will be in Hoisington Cemetery. Memorials are requested to Reta Hood Memorial Fund, in care of the funeral home.
