Norma Gayle "Granny" Schenk, 81, died on December 15, 2007, at Hospice House, Hutchinson, Kansas. Norma was born on December 22, 2007, at Coldwater, Kansas, the daughter of Fred H. and Violet M. Riner Scholle. She was a resident of Great Bend since 1943 coming from Coldwater, Kansas. Norma was the office manager for Bemis Construction of Great Bend. On September 25, 1943 she married Robert J. Schenk in Great Bend, Kansas. He died on October 25, 1991. She was a charter member of the Sweet Adelines and a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority both of Great Bend. She and her husband, Robert started the Lake Ministries at Cedar Bluff Reservoir in the 1960's. She was also a Barton County Cougar Booster. Survivors include three daughters, Dixie Watkins( Mike) and Donna Rusco (Clark), both of Great Bend, and Debbie Risley (Verlyn) of Wichita, Kansas; seven grandchildren; and fourteen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, J.P. Scholle, and a great-grandson, Malachi Thornton. Funeral services will be on Thursday, December 20, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. at Bryant Funeral Home, Great Bend, with the Reverend Dr. Arlyn Thielenhaus and the Reverend William F. Johnson officiating. Interment will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park, Great Bend, Kansas. Visitation will be Wednesday, December 19, 2007 from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. with family receiving friends from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Bryant Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to Golden Belt Home Health and Hospice or the Norma Schenk Memorial Fund for the benefit of a future hospice house, in care of the funeral home.
