Naomia Katheryn Newell, 100, died January 21, 2007 at Iowa Masonic Health Facilities, Bettendorf, Iowa. She was born the daughter of Lafayette and Virginia (Fitzwater) Brock August 24, 1906 at Carolton, Missouri. She married Ralph D. Newell September 26, 1926 at Garden City, Kansas. Mrs. Newell was a homemaker. Mrs. Newell had many interests through the years. She loved flowers and helped maintain gardens at her home, at the Great Bend Library and the Great Bend Memorial Park. She belonged to numerous clubs and organizations including being a charter member of the Camp Fire Girls in Scott City, Kansas, and a life member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She spent many hours working with friends in the First Christian Church in Great Bend, and always enjoyed hearing about their activities after moving to Bettendorf. Survivors include one daughter, Linda Fairweather and husband, David, Bettendorf, Iowa; four grandchildren: David Shawn Fairweather and wife, Cynthia, Sandy Hook, Connecticut; Kimberly Kay Ruge and husband, Jim, Bettendorf, Iowa; Jeffrey Scott Fairweather and wife, Kristine, Bettendorf, Iowa; and Linda Renee McGhee and husband, Pete, Davenport, Iowa; and eight great-grandchildren. Mrs. Newell was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ralph; sister, Ruth Freed; and one great-grandson, Tyler James Ruge. Celebration of Life services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, January 25, 2007 at Weerts Funeral Home, Davenport, Iowa. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 30, 2007 at Great Bend Cemetery, Great Bend, Kansas. Reverend William F. Johnson will officiate. Friends may call Monday, January 29, 2007 from noon to 9:00 p.m. at Bryant Funeral Home. A memorial fund has been established with First Christian Church, Great Bend, in care of the funeral home.
