Mildred Irene Pelton, 99, died July 31, 2013 at Cherry Village Nursing Home, Great Bend, Kansas. She was born November 8, 1913 at Inman, Kansas, the daughter of William C. and Dora (Harder) Hassman. She married Charles F. German March 12, 1935. He died April 18, 1961. She then married Lloyd Henry Pelton August 12, 1978 at Claflin, Kansas. He died January 7, 2002. A Claflin resident from 1945 until she moved to Cherry Village in 2009, Mrs. Pelton was a payroll clerk for Central Kansas Medical Center and was secretary at Claflin High School. Mrs. Pelton was a member of United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, and Claflin Booster Club, all of Claflin; and Big Bend Good Sam Club. Survivors include one daughter, Peggy Lara, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; two grandchildren: Joel Lara, Dallas, Texas; and Chuck Glaze, Wichita, Kansas; one great-grandchild, Jesse Paul Glaze; two step-sons: Loren Pelton, Dallas, Texas; and Wayne Pelton, Wichita, Kansas; one step-daughter, Nadine Dolan, Traverse City, Michigan; five step-grandchildren, Lori, Chris, Lance, Courtney, and Lon; and eight step-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Vada Glaze; two brothers, Irvan Hassman and Evert Hassman; and one sister, Verda Walker. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, August 3, 2013 at Claflin United Methodist Church with Pastor Gene Langhofer officiating. Burial will be at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, August 3, 2013 at the Bean Cemetery, Little River, Kansas. Memorials are requested to Claflin United Methodist Church, in care of the funeral home.
