Mildred Bean, 97, died March 8, 2012 at Country Place Senior Living, Ellinwood. She was born Aug. 21, 1914 at Jetmore, the daughter of Lloyd M. and Ethel M. (McGee) Scothorn. She married Jay W. Bean June 29, 1933 at LaCrosse. He died March 7, 1963. She was a clerk at the Dodge City Dillons store and was a pastry clerk in various Dillons locations. Mrs. Bean was a Great Bend resident since 1977 coming from Pueblo, Colo. She was a member of First Christian Church. She enjoyed fishing and spending time with her grandchildren. Survivors include a son, Paul Bean and his wife Norma, Great Bend; two grandchildren, Gregory Bean and Paula Schwartzkopf and a great-grandson, Jay Schwartzkopf. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Roy Scothorn and Raleigh Scothorn, and one sister, Mae Ashley. A Memorial Service will be scheduled at a later date at Dodge City Cemetery. There will be visitation at cremation has taken place. Memorials are suggested to the Golden Belt Humane Society, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.
