Michael Ray "Mike" Shelton, 59, died July 27, 2009 at Great Bend Regional Hospital, Great Bend, Kansas. He was born December 25, 1949 at Great Bend, Kansas, the son of Raymond Dean and Joyce P. (Beall) Shelton. He married Rhonda Jean Beakey June 22, 1973 at Great Bend, Kansas. A lifetime Great Bend resident, Mr. Shelton was a truck driver for Tret-o-lite for thirteen years and a former guard at Larned Prison where he was a member of the SCAT Team. He was a Vietnam veteran, serving in the United States Navy. He loved his motorcycle, playing pool, gardening, and spending time with his grandchildren. Mr. Shelton was a member of the American Legion Argonne Post 180. Survivors include his wife, Rhonda Shelton, of the home; one son, Michael Caine "Puddin" Shelton, Enid, Oklahoma; two daughters: Cheri Wagner and husband, Tim, Great Bend, Kansas; and Reagan Parr and husband, Eric, Great Bend, Kansas; his mother, Joyce P. Shelton, Great Bend; two brothers: Douglas Dean Shelton and wife, Shelly, Great Bend, Kansas; and Rick Shelton and wife, Michelle, Salina, Kansas; two sisters: Melody Ray Cell and husband, Sam, Bazine, Kansas; and Sharon Wondra and husband, Harold, Great Bend, Kansas; and five grandchildren: Tylar Wagner, Paige Wagner, Erika Parr, Maycee Parr, and Kanyen Parr. He was preceded in death by his father, Raymond D. Shelton. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, July 30, 2009 at Bryant Funeral Home with the Reverend Don Paden officiating. Burial will be in Great Bend Cemetery with military honors conducted by the United States Navy Honor Guard. Friends may call from 1:00 to 9:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 29, 2009 with the family receiving friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., and from 9:00 a.m. to service time Thursday at Bryant Funeral Home.
