Menta A. Hofmeister, 88, died December 20, 2010 at Great Bend Health and Rehabilitation Center, Great Bend, Kansas. She was born July 7, 1922 at Mount Pleasant, Iowa, the daughter of Charles and Virginia (Reynolds) Eahart. She married Elmer Hofmeister October 12, 1947 at Parsons, Kansas. He died February 11, 2005. A longtime Claflin, Kansas, resident, Mrs. Hofmeister was an elementary school teacher and a homemaker. Mrs. Hofmeister was a member of the United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women, Claflin; and Order of Eastern Star Chapter 420, Holyrood, Kansas. Survivors include one son, Fred Hofmeister, Claflin; three daughters: Betty Ruhlen, Lawrence, Kansas; Phyllis Hofmeister, Hutchinson, Kansas; and Helen Hawley, Hudsonville, Michigan; one sister, Cleo Smith, Iola, Kansas; eight grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one sister, Virginia Blair; and one great-granddaughter, Emily Mills. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, December 23, 2010 at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home with the Reverend Gene Langhofer officiating. Burial will be in Dubuque Cemetery, south of Dubuque, Kansas. Friends may call from 1:00 to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 22, 2010 and from 9:00 a.m. to service time Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials are requested to United Methodist Church or Claflin EMS, in care of the funeral home.
