Mary Helen Volkmann, 98, died February 10, 2011 at Mercy Regional Hospital, Manhattan, Kansas. She was born September 6, 1912 at Wakeeney, Kansas, the daughter of Edward David and Ethel Mae (Dorns) Hobbick. She married Harley William Volkmann, November 19, 1934 at Lyons, Kansas. He died September 24, 2006. A Great Bend resident since 1944, residing in Manhattan since 2006, Mrs. Volkmann was a homemaker and worked for many years at Security State Bank. Mrs. Volkmann was a member of First United Methodist Church, Great Bend. Survivors include one son: Bill Volkmann and wife Nancy, Manhattan, Kansas; one daughter: Chris Foos and husband Gary, Overland Park, Kansas; three grandchildren: Kathy Foos, Olathe, Kansas; Stacy Oshel, Paola, Kansas; and Michael Foos, Mission, Kansas; five great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, February 19, 2011 at Hillcrest Memorial Park, Great Bend. The Reverend Tom Sheldon will officiate. There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to First United Methodist Church, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.
