Mary Esther Powers, 91, died Wednesday, May 16, 2007, at Woodhaven Care Center, Ellinwood, Kansas. She was born on February 19, 1916 at Halstead, Kansas, the daughter of Jacob Ernest and Emma Mae McCart Lehman. She graduated from Halstead High School. Mary married Dixon D. Powers on September 5, 1937 at Halstead, Kansas. He died on November 26, 1972. She was a partner with her husband in the Dixon D. Powers Service, Inc.. After his death she became owner and operator of the business. She was a resident of Great Bend for 58 years coming from Tulsa, Oklahoma. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Great Bend. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and was devoted to her family. She was an exceptionally kind and loving sister and sister-in-law. Survivors include: two sons, David A. Powers of Wichita, Kansas, and Ronald L. Powers of Great Bend, Kansas; one daughter, Sherry L. Brent of Winnetka, California; two sisters, Edna Bansemer of Grass Valley, California and Barbara Freeman of Roseburg, Oregon; a sister-in-law, Verna Lehman of Tulsa, Oklahoma; and one grandson, Matthew P. Brent of Alton, Kansas. Mary was preceded in death by one brother, Kenneth A. Lehman and one sister, Helen Wilson and two brother-in-laws, Jack Wilson and Cliff Freeman. Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 21, 2007 at 1:30 p.m. at Bryant Funeral Home with the Reverend Gary Brooks officiating. Interment will be at the Great Bend Cemetery, Great Bend, Kansas. Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 20, 2007 from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with family to receive friends from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Monday, May 21, 2007 from 9:00 a.m. to service time at Bryant Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to, Multiple Sclerosis Society or Alzheimer's Association or American Lung Association in care of the funeral home.
