Martin "Marty" C. Smith, 58, passed away Sunday May 19, 2013 at KU Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas. He was born October 7, 1954 at Denver, Colorado the son of Robert E. and Evelyn (Collins) Smith. Marty moved to Hoisington in 2008 coming from Lovington, New Mexico. He served his country in the United States Army and worked as a Heavy Equipment Operator until he was disabled. He was a member of First Street Church of God in Hoisington. He enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and his dogs Harley, Bandit and Roxy. Marty married Karen King on January 16, 1998 in Springfield, Missouri. Survivors include his wife Karen Smith of the home in Hoisington; his father, Robert E. Smith of Lebanon, Missouri; three sons, Matthew Corey Smith and wife Kenzi of Lovington, New Mexico, Jason M. King of Great Bend, Kansas, Dustin M. Rhodes of Shreveport, Louisiana; one daughter, Natalie N. Garcia and husband Albert of College Station, Texas; one sister, Janice F. Green and husband David of Lovington, New Mexico; five grandchildren, Arianna, Albert Jr., Nicholas, Gaige, and Zoey. He was preceded in death by his mother and grandparents. Funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 23, 2013 at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home in Hoisington, Kansas with Reverend Dick Ogle officiating. Burial will follow at Hoisington Cemetery. Friends may call Wednesday, May 22, 2013 from 10:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. with family present from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home.
