Margaret Iola Tammen, 92, died June 27, 2011 at Cherry Village Nursing Home, Great Bend, Kansas. She was born July 15, 1918 at Great Bend, the daughter of Charles Leslie and Helen Irene (Mayes) Naylor. She married August Herman Gus Tammen August 24, 1941 at Great Bend. He died July 2, 2001. A lifetime Barton County resident, Mrs. Tammen was a homemaker and farm wife. Mrs. Tammen was a member of Peace Lutheran Church, Peace Lutheran Church Women, and Sunday School teacher, Albert; and Hillside EHU. She was very active in and committed to her church and family. She was involved in her childrens activities, especially loving their 4-H projects. She enjoyed quilting, playing cards, and her coffee group. Survivors include one son: Ron Tammen and wife Jo, Pawnee Rock, Kansas; two daughters: Rhonda Tutak and husband Allen, Hays, Kansas; and Reva Dougherty and husband Dick, Great Bend; seven grandchildren: Kelly Tammen, Camille McCoy, Cal Tammen, Kyle Tutak, Kalie Tutak, Lori Strecker, and Stacy Dougherty; eight great-grandchildren: Cade McCoy, Megan McCoy, Jenna Tammen, Cooper Tammen, Taylor Tutak, Lidia Strecker, Jai Strecker, and Harley Dougherty. She was preceded in death by her parents; her step-father, Andrew Wirtz; and one sister, Betty Peschka. A prayer service will be at 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 29, 2011 at Bryant Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 11:30 a.m., Thursday, June 30, 2011 at Peace Lutheran Church, Albert. Father Steve Little will officiate. Burial will be in Peace Lutheran Church Cemetery. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 20, 2011 at Bryant Funeral Home. Memorials are requested to Peace Lutheran Church, in care of the funeral home.
