Margaret Louise Smith, 84, died May 20, 2008 at Cherry Village Nursing Home, Great Bend, Kansas. She was born August 5, 1923 at Florence, Kansas, the daughter of Ralph and Selena (Clement) Murphy. She married Robert R. Smith October 11, 1946 at Great Bend, Kansas. He died May 14, 2008. A homemaker, Mrs. Smith was a lifetime resident of Great Bend and Hoisington, Kansas. Mrs. Smith was a member of the Prince of Peace Parish at St. Patrick; and was a former member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Hoisington; was a member of the Altar Society; Daughters of the American Revolution and served as secretary six years; Barton County Historical Society; Barton County Democrats; and was a Girl Scout leader. Survivors include three sons: Dennis Smith, Gainesville, Florida; Terry Smith, Salina, Kansas; and Mark Smith, Shadyside, Maryland; four daughters: Sharon Schremmer, Wichita, Kansas; Linda Whitt, Hutchinson, Kansas; Jan Morgenstern and Mary Dumler, both of Hoisington, Kansas; one brother, Mike Murphy, Atlanta, Georgia; and one sister, Coleen Murphy, Great Bend, Kansas; fifteen grandchildren; and eighteen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one brother, John Patrick Murphy; and a great-granddaughter, Kirsten Ochs. Vigil service will be at 7:00 p.m., Friday, May 23, 2008 at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, May 24, 2008 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, with Father Dwight Birket celebrant. Burial will be in St. John Church Cemetery. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Thursday and Friday at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer's Foundation or St. John Church Building Fund, both in care of the funeral home.
