Lorena Freda Otte Calcara, 92, died May 24, 2008 at Central Kansas Medical Center, Great Bend, Kansas. She was given the gift of life April 7, 1916 at Great Bend, Kansas, the daughter of Henry and Zilphia (Essmiller) Otte. She married Jasper Calcara January 23, 1942 at Great Bend. He died May 23, 1974. A lifetime resident of Great Bend, Mrs. Calcara was a homemaker. Mrs. Calcara was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ, Sunflower EHU and was a former 4-H Leader. Survivors include three sons: Jim Calcara and wife, Margaret, Kansas City, Kansas; Rich Calcara and wife, Martha, Overland, Park, Kansas; Mark Calcara and wife, Melanie, Great Bend, Kansas; two daughters: Marla Calcara, Overland Park, Kansas; and Rhonna Calcara and husband, Joe Youngberg, Aurora, Colorado; and six grandchildren: Jamie Calcara, Megan Calcara, Matt Calcara, Grant Calcara, Chris Calcara, and Taylor Calcara. She was preceded in death by one brother, Alvin Otte. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m., Friday, May 30, 2008 at Bryant Funeral Home. The Reverend Gary Brooks will officiate. Burial will be in Great Bend Cemetery. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., Thursday, May 29, 2008 and from 9:00 a.m. to service time Friday, May 30, 2008 at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Golden Belt Community Foundation, in care of the funeral home.
