Obituary

Lonie-Marie Doppler-Schreck, 103, died peacefully at her home on Sunday, February 22, 2009. Lonie was the oldest of six children, born to Maurice and Catherine Doppler of Alsace-Lorraine, France, a small farming community of Steinbrun Le Haut. She attended a small one room country school, completing eight years. As a young girl she took charge of the home, caring for the family. She survived as a child through the hardships of World War I which helped her become a strong woman to endure World War II. Beginning at the age of seventeen, she became a cook and organizer for several orphanages. She married Joseph Schreck November 30, 1935 and together they built a farming estate. From this union they raised three children, Maurice-Joseph, John-Pierre and Margarita-Agnes. In 1949, Lonie and her family came to America to build a new life together. They settled in Ellinwood, Kansas, and remained there for nearly sixty years. Joseph passed away May 21, 1974. Her parents and all her siblings preceded her in death, with four generations of nieces and nephews remaining in France. She was a member of Prince of Peace Parish at St. Rose, St. Joseph Parish in Ellinwood, and the Legion of Mary. The veterans of the USA always had a special place in her heart and she would like to bid all of her boys, "farewell". Survivors include two sons: Maurice-Joseph Schreck and wife, Margaret, Ellinwood, Kansas; and John-Pierre Schreck, Texas City, Texas; one daughter: Margarita-Agnes Mura, Great Bend, Kansas; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Four brothers, Maurice, Joseph, George, and Marcel Doppler; and one sister, Rosalie Broeglin preceded her in death.
