Leland Julius Luther, 84, died November 20, 2007, at Hutchinson Hospital, Hutchinson, Kansas. Leland was born on September 18, 1923, in rural Edwards County, Kansas, the son of Dillard J. and Gertrude Miller Luther. On April 8, 1948 he married Shirley M Campbell at Great Bend, Kansas. She survives. Leland worked as oilfield production supervisor for Campbell Drilling and Production Company. He later owned and operated a motel and an exotic farm. He was a lifetime Great Bend resident. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Great Bend. Survivors include his wife, Shirley of the home and a beloved baby camel, Holly also of the home; five nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Dillard Luther, Lowell Luther and Warren Luther; and one sister, Bonnie Crawford. Funeral Services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 24, 2007 at the First Presbyterian Church, Great Bend with the Reverend Hal Staats officiating. Interment will be at the Great Bend Cemetery, Great Bend. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Friday, November 23, 2007 with family present from 7:00 to 7:30 p.m. at Bryant Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to Barton County Humane Society or Barton County Relay for Life in care of the funeral home.
