Lawrence W. Fox, 96, died March 12, 2008 at Great Bend Health and Rehabilition Center, Great Bend, Kansas. He was born July 5, 1911 at Hastings, Colorado, the son of William John and Zelda Lillian Armstrong Fox. He married Ramona Emily Hall August 6, 1933 at Winfield, Kansas. She died September 21, 1994. He moved to Great Bend in 1999 from Russell, Kansas, where he had resided since 1946. Mr. Fox was a Ford mechanic in Winfield, Dodge City, Salina, and El Dorado, Kansas, before beginning to work for Shields Oil Producers of Russell in 1946. He assisted with the development of the Oil Patch in Russell, supervising the building of the wooden oil rig. After his retirement, he volunteered at the Russell Oil Patch and for Barton County RSVP. Survivors include one son, Clarence "Tom" Fox and wife, Paula, San Diego, California; one daughter, Mary Lou Warren, Great Bend, Kansas; five grandchildren, Lauri J. Skinner and husband, Randy, Midland, Texas, Lesli J. Gonsalez and husband, Albert, Topeka, Kansas, Lejay T. Warren and wife, Wendy, Minneola, Kansas, Marty R. Fox and wife, Charilyn, Redlands, California, and Richard E. Fox, San Diego, California; eleven great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchilren. Additional survivors include three nieces, three nephews, and several cousins. Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m., Monday, March 17, 2008 at Bryant Funeral Home. Pastor Julie Shields will officiate. Burial will be at 3:30 p.m. at Highland Cemetery, Winfield, Kansas. Friends may call from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., Sunday, March 16, 2008 at Bryant Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to the Trinity United Methodist Church Building Fund or Barton County Historical Society, in care of the funeral home.
