LaVerne J. Unruh, 88, died February 12, 2008 at Newton Medical Center, Newton, Kansas. He was born December 28, 1919 at Pawnee Rock, Kansas, the son of Jacob J. and Anna Dirks Unruh. He married Lois B. Unruh November 26, 1941 at Pawnee Rock. She died August 6, 2003. A lifetime Larned, Kansas, area resident until moving to Hesston, Kansas, three years ago, Mr. Unruh was engaged in farming. Mr. Unruh was a member of Bergthal Mennonite Church, Pawnee Rock, Kansas. Survivors include three sons, Gary Unruh, Hesston, Kansas, Lyonell Unruh, Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Virlon Unruh, Steinbach, Manitoba, Canada; five grandchildren; and one great-grandson. Mr. Unruh was preceded in death by two brothers, Harvey Unruh and John Unruh, and five sisters, Mabel Unruh, Alvena Unruh, Gladys Rudiger, Evalena Unruh, and Laura Mae Freeburg. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, February 16, 2008 at Bryant Funeral Home. Pastor Lynn Schlosser will officiate. Burial will be in the Mennonite Memorial Cemetery, Pawnee Rock, Kansas. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Friday, February 15, 2008, with the family receiving friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at Bryant Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to the Bergthal Mennonite Church, in care of the funeral home.
