Kent E. Newport, 57, died October 27, 2014 at Kansas Medical Center, Andover, Kansas. He was born June 24, 1957 at Garden City, Kansas, the son of John and Louise (Long) Newport. He married Karla K. Ehrlich October 17, 1998 at Larned. He graduated from Garden City High School and attended both Garden City and Barton County Community Colleges. He was a law enforcement officer for forty years, working for the last twenty years as a Kansas State Trooper. Mr. Newport was a Great Bend resident. He was a member of Kansas State Troopers Association. Survivors include wife, Karla K. Newport of the home; father, John Newport and wife Betty; mother, Louise Long of Garden City; three daughters: Holly Cedillo of Rozel; Andi Newport of Rozel; and Erica Brown of Larned; one sister, Kathy Speers of Fort Worth, Texas; one brother, Jimmy Dunsworth of Garden City; six grandchildren, Felicity Cedillo, Mattieu Cedillo, Aiden Gales, Mario Cedillo, Lylee Brown, and Shay Brown; and mother-in-law, Lila Ehrlich. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m., Friday, October 31, 2014 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Hoisington. Burial will be in Hoisington Cemetery, Hoisington. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, October 30, 2014 at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home.
