Kenneth Richard Fischer, 82, died February 29, 2008 at his Great Bend, Kansas, residence. He was given the gift of life October 28, 1925 at Rural Stafford County, Kansas, the son of Alvin Theodore and Marie Alvina Oncken Fischer. He married Frances Virginia Trego June 1, 1947 at Greeley, Colorado. She died September 19, 2004. Mr. Fischer was a resident of Great Bend for five years, spending most of his life on a farm at Hudson, Kansas, as a farmer and stockman. Mr. Fischer was a member of Peace Church, Peace Church Consistory, Peace Church Cemetery Board, and the church choir, all at Hudson, Kansas; St. John Lions Club; St. John/Hudson School Board; Stafford County Soil Conservation Board; Great Bend Masonic Lodge #15; and the Silver Cougar Club. Survivors include three daughters, Alice Whitmer and husband, Eldon, Wilson, Kansas, Pamela Stuewe and husband, Ervan, Alma, Kansas, and Marsha DeHart and husband, Steven, Olsburg, Kansas; one sister, Patricia Moore, Lawrenceville, Georgia; and six grandchildren, Christopher Whitmer, Jonathan Whitmer, Brooke Herrera, Morgan Stuewe, MaKenna DeHart, and Jacob DeHart. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, March 6, 2008 at First United Methodist Church, Great Bend, Kansas. The Reverends Gary Brooks and Dick Ogle will officiate. Private family inurnment will take place at a later date at Peace Cemetery, Hudson, Kansas. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 5, 2008 at Bryant Funeral Home, with the family receiving friends from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to Peace Church, First United Methodist Church, or Sterling College, in care of the funeral home.
