Joseph J. Rziha, 94, died January 23, 2011 at Clara Barton Hospital, Hoisington, Kansas. He was born February 2, 1916 at Odin, Kansas, the son of Frank and Mary (Koester) Rziha. He married Ida Ann Huschka Wendel October 28, 1972 at Hoisington. She died October 12, 2002. A lifetime rural Odin resident, Mr. Rziha was a farmer and rancher. Mr. Rziha was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus Council 2630, Odin. Survivors include step-son, Kenneth Wendel and wife Mary E., Carrollton, Texas; step-daughter, Marlene M. Palmer and husband Dennis, Great Bend, Kansas; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one brother, Frank Rziha; and nine sisters: Margaret Olsen, Sister Mary Jordan; infant sister, Elizabeth; Agnes Penka; Helen McCann; Rose Schneider; Mathilda "Tillie" Reif; Ann Hunsley; and Catherine Hipp. Vigil service will be at 7:00 p.m., Thursday, January 27, 2011 at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Ellinwood, with Father Pascal Klein celebrant. Burial will be in the Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Thursday at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church or Golden Belt Humane Society, in care of the funeral home.
