Joseph L. "Joe" Vasquez, 68, died November 10, 2009 at the University of Kansas Medical Center, Kansas City, Kansas. He was born December 3, 1940 at Geneseo, Kansas, the son of Luis P. and Frances (Gomez) Vasquez. He married Judy L. Crawford August 24, 1987 at Sedalia, Missouri. He was a Hoisington High School graduate. A shop tech for the Union Pacific Railroad for thirty years, Mr. Vasquez retired in 2006 at Sedalia. He was a resident of Susank and Hoisington, Kansas, for many years, and retired in Great Bend, Kansas. Mr. Vasquez was a member of the Brotherhood of Railroad Signalmen for thirty years. Survivors include his wife, Judy Vasquez, of the home; five sons: Joseph Dion Vasquez and wife Candi, Hoisington, Kansas; Steven Vasquez and wife Bonita, Claflin, Kansas; Leland Vasquez, Sedalia, Missouri; Charles F. Beesley, Sedalia, Missouri; and Bradley Vasquez, Winfield, Kansas; one daughter: Tina Bortz and husband Barry, Hoisington, Kansas; two brothers: Robert Vasquez, Great Bend, Kansas; and Luis A. Vasquez, Hoisington; two sisters: Helen Harmon, Hoisington; and Dolores Meitzner, Alma, Nebraska; seventeen grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by five brothers, one sister, one daughter, one grandson, and one great-granddaughter. A Rosary will be at 7:30 p.m., Friday, November 13, 2009 at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m., Saturday, November 14, 2009 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Hoisington. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery, Hoisington. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home. Memorials are requested to St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, in care of the funeral home.
