John Edwin Taylor, 85, died February 27, 2014 at Great Bend Regional Hospital. Born November 3, 1928 in Great Bend, he was the son of Thomas Richard and Goldie (Asher) Taylor. On March 24, 1957 he married Elaine Hooper in Green Mountain Falls, Colo. She died on August 30, 2013. A lifetime resident of Great Bend, he was the owner and operator of Walnut Hill Feeders and Taylors Toys. He raised and enjoyed showing championship Hereford cattle. Mr. Taylor was a United States Army Reserve veteran. He was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ. Survivors include one daughter, Peggy Taylor of Lawrence; two grandchildren, Nathan Billings and Elizabeth Billings; and one great-grandchild, Nora Billings. He was preceded in death by one brother, Tom Taylor. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, March 10, 2014 at Bryant Funeral Home with the Reverend Phyllis Brannon Flory officiating. Inurnment will be at the Great Bend Cemetery. There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. Memorials are suggested to the Barton County Historical Society in care of the funeral home.
