John W. Howerton, 94, died September 10, 2008 at Hays Medical Center, Hays, Kansas. He was born February 8, 1914 at Creal Springs, Illinois, the son of Elijah and Mayme Creal Howerton. He married Annie Wilson. She preceded him in death and he later married Jessie A. Lone on March 5, 1975 at Pawnee Rock. She died November 2, 2005. He was a Pawnee Rock resident since 1943 coming from from Colorado. He was a self-employed wheat custom cutter. He was of the Baptist faith. Survivors include two sons, Ralph Howerton, Hays, Kansas and Jack Howerton, Lyons Kansas; two step-sons, Bob Manka and Philip Manka, both of Pawnee Rock; two step-daughters, Gloria Wondra, Newton, Kansas and Kay Manka, Colorado; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Graveside service will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday at Pawnee Rock Cemetery, Pawnee Rock, Kansas with the Reverend John Grummon officiating. Friends may visit Sunday, 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Bryant Funeral Home, Great Bend, Kansas. Memorials are suggested to Donor's Choice in care of the funeral home.
