Joe A. Hitschmann, 90, died February 7, 2009 at his rural Odin, Kansas, residence. He was born February 9, 1918 at Odin, the son of Joseph E. and Emma (Reif) Hitschmann. He married Anna M. Meyeres September 10, 1940 at Odin. A lifetime Odin resident, Mr. Hitschmann was a retired farmer and stockman. Mr. Hitschmann was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, Odin, and the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Great Bend, Kansas. He liked to hunt, play cards, and garden. Survivors include his wife, Anna M. Hitschmann, Odin, Kansas; two sons: Marvin Hitschmann, Manhattan, Kansas; and Harold "Poncho" Hitschmann, Great Bend, Kansas; one brother, Hermes Hitschmann, Odin, Kansas; one sister, Helen Zecha, Fort Dodge, Kansas; and one grandson, Rod Hitschmann, Wichita, Kansas. He was preceded in death by one brother, Clarence Hitschmann and one sister, Lenora Meyeres. Vigil service and rosary will be at 7:00 p.m., Monday, February 9, 2009 at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, February 10, 2009 at Holy Family Catholic Church, Odin, with Father Dwight Birket celebrating the Mass. Burial will be in Holy Family Cemetery. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday, February 9, 2009 at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home.
