Jesus L. Torrez, 85, died October 25, 2011 at Hays Medical Center, Hays, Kansas. He was born December 23, 1925 at Hoisington, Kansas, the son of Pablo Martinez and Candelaria (Lopes) Torrez. He married Lucy Mancha March 24, 1949 at Great Bend, Kansas. They later divorced. He then married Wanda Ritter. A Great Bend resident, coming from Albert and Dodge City, Mr. Torrez was a laborer for the Santa Fe Railroad. He liked gardening. Survivors include his wife, Wanda Ritter, Great Bend; two sons: Roger Torrez and his wife Joy, Great Bend; and Joseph Torrez and his wife Darlene, Albert; one daughter, Loretta Trapp, Great Bend; eight grandchildren: Joshua Cape, Laurie Kurtz, Jessica Davis, Michael Torrez, Kelsey Torrez, Vanessa Torrez, Abby Prescott, and Corey Torrez. He was preceded in death by six brothers, John Torrez, Fidel Torrez, Salvador Torrez, Tony Torrez, Juan Torrez, and Tommy Torrez; and one infant sister, Lupe Torrez. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m., Friday, October 28, 2011 at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home with Father Ultan Murphy officiating. Burial will be in St. John Church Cemetery. Friends may call from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., and from 9:00 a.m. to service time Friday, at the funeral home. Memorials are requested to St. John Cemetery Fund, in care of the funeral home.
