James W. "Jim" Kreie, 79, died Sunday, July 13, 2014 at Woodhaven Care Center, Ellinwood. Born August 16, 1934 at Rocky Ford, Colorado, he was the son of Herb Edward and Doris (Allyn) Kreie. Jim married JoAnne Boxberger January 9, 1955 at Russell. She survives. Mr. Kreie was a Great Bend resident since 1971 coming from Russell. He was employed as an adjustor for Commercial Credit in Denver and Wichita in the early 1950's. He and JoAnne moved to the family farm in Russell, where he operated the farm from 1957 until 1965. He later owned and operated Kennard Lease Service, and later moved to Great Bend where he was employed by White Star Machinery as a sales representative from 1971 to 1994. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Masonic Lodge, the ISIS Shrine Temple, and the ATO Social Fraternity. Survivors include his wife, JoAnne Kreie, of the home; son Kirk Kreie of Lindsborg; and daughter Lynne Petzold and husband Paul of Shawnee. He was preceded in death by a brother, Herb Kreie. A graveside memorial service will be at 11:00 a.m., Friday, July 18, 2014 at Great Bend Cemetery North in Great Bend with Rev. Mark Galbraith officiating. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 16, 2014 with the family receiving friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Bryant Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to Trinity Lutheran Church or Kansas Oil and Gas Museum, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.
