James L. Blakey, 77, died February 17, 2013 at Great Bend Regional Hospital, Great Bend, Kansas. He was born July 28, 1935 at Great Bend, the son of William and Esther (Langrehr) Blakey. He married Dorothy Parker in June 1970 at Hoisington, Kansas. She died March 3, 1973. A lifetime Great Bend resident, Mr. Blakey was a juvenile corrections case worker for Larned State Hospital. He was a United States Army veteran. Survivors include two step-daughters: Dorsha Ratledge and her husband L. J., Great Bend; and Debbie Brown and her husband Sequoyah, Booker, Texas; one sister, Janis Blakey, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada; six grandchildren: Kelly Shull, Tina Shull, Adam Shull, Sunny Merrill, Chelsey Brown, and Shaley Brown; and eleven great-grandchildren: Kayli Marie, Kynli, Courtney, Tailyn, Adrian, Kristopher, Logan, Tobin, Kaitlyn, Sloan, and Ruby. Memorial service will be at 2:30 p.m., Friday, February 22, 2013 at Bryant Funeral Home with the Reverend Dick Ogle officiating. Inurnment will be in Great Bend Cemetery. There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. Memorials are requested to American Cancer Society, in care of the funeral home.
