Gwendylon W. Stroup, 95, died July 2, 2009 at the Kay Pogue Hospice Center, Salina, Kansas. She was born April 4, 1914 at Labette County, Kansas, the daughter of Francis Morton and Iva Lula (Wiley) Polk. She married George H. Stroup December 24, 1937 at Edna, Kansas. He died May 23, 1986. A resident of Great Bend since 1975, moving from Chase, Mrs. Stroup was an optometrist assistant for Dr. Joseph Rowan and Dr. Ron Huffman, Lyons. Most recently Mrs. Stroup worked at Central Kansas Medical Center, Great Bend, as a PBX operator and an insurance clerk. Mrs. Stroup was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Great Bend, and was a member of the Garden Club and HDU, Chase. Survivors include three daughters: Janet Bybee and husband, Charles, Great Bend, Kansas; Judy Albin and husband, Irvin, Salina, Kansas; and Georgia Link and husband, Dan, Hutchinson, Kansas; one brother, C. M. Polk, Pratt, Kansas; one sister, Pauline Jamison, Tulsa, Oklahoma; six grandchildren: Traci Hamblin, Brian Bybee, Lori Munsell, Stephanie Albin, Ross Link, and Dana Ochs; and six great-grandchildren: Kendra Hamblin, Kaci Hamblin, Joshua Munsell, Keetan Munsell, Conner Munsell, and Katelyn Ochs. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Stanley Polk and Herschel Dale Polk; and three sisters, Ruby Watkins, Mildred Stevens, and Isophene Coville. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 7, 2009 at Bryant Funeral Home with the Reverend William F. Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Great Bend Cemetery. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., Monday, July 6, 2009 at Bryant Funeral Home. Memorials are requested to the American Heart Association or the Kay Pogue Hospice Center, both in care of the funeral home.
