Gladys L. Nemnich, 72, died August 29, 2009 at Ellinwood District Hospital, Ellinwood, Kansas. She was born November 11, 1936 at Hartford, Kansas, the daughter of Edward and Lora (Wilson) Sutton. She married John S. "Steve" Nemnich August 14, 1955 at Hartford. Mrs. Nemnich attended Mutton Head Elementary and Emporia High School. She was a clerk at the Citizen State Bank, Emporia, Kansas; C. O. Mammel Grocery, Ellinwood; and The Showcase, Ellinwood. She was a resident of Ellinwood since 1970, coming from Derby, Kansas. Mrs. Nemnich was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion Auxiliaries, both of Ellinwood. Survivors include her husband, Steve, of the home; two sons: Ed Nemnich and wife, Diane, Ellinwood, Kansas; and Brad Nemnich and wife, Chris, Great Bend, Kansas; two sisters: Helen Elmore, Camdenton, Missouri; and Vera Renchler, Topeka, Kansas; five grandchildren: Lisa Nemnich, Hays, Kansas; Kyle Nemnich, Ellinwood, Kansas; Shawn Nemnich and wife, Jenni, Lawrence, Kansas; Nickie Mayberry and husband, Jared, Great Bend, Kansas; and Megan Nemnich, Great Bend, Kansas; and two great-grandchildren: Zoey Mayberry and Brooklynn Mayberry. She was preceded in death by three brothers: John Sutton, Earl Sutton, and Ernest Sutton; and two sisters: Josephine Young and Margaret Bazil. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, September 2, 2009 at Bryant Funeral Home with the Reverend Dr. Doyle Smith officiating. Burial will be in Lakin-Comanche District Cemetery, Ellinwood. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 1, 2009, with the family receiving friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and from 9:00 a.m. to service time, Wednesday, at Bryant Funeral Home. Memorials are requested to the Ellinwood EMS or Ellinwood District Hospital, both in care of the funeral home.
