Gertrude Josephine Rziha, 92, died January 21, 2008 at Alterra Sterling House, Great Bend, Kansas. She was born on February 28, 1915 at Odin, Kansas, the daughter of Emil and Josephine Zorn Schneweis. On August 23, 1938 she married Frank H. Rziha at Odin, Kansas. He died August 15, 1989. Gertrude was a homemaker. She was a resident of Sterling House for three years and Great Bend for eighteen years coming from Odin, Kansas. Gertrude was a member of the Prince of Peace Parish at St. Patrick and Altar Society of Great Bend. Survivors include five sons, Leonard Rziha and wife Joan of Hoisington, Kansas, Jim Rziha and wife Jolene of Great Bend, Kansas, Gerald Rziha and wife Jeanne of Tampa, Kansas, Robert Rziha and wife Nancy of Great Bend, Kansas and Larry Rziha of Ponca City, Oklahoma; three daughters, Bernice Kaiser and husband Marvin of Hays, Kansas, Mary Anne Hammerschmidt and husband Ron of Topeka, Kansas, Cecelia Schreiber and husband Gary of Osborne, Kansas; one brother, Edwin Schneweis and wife Lucille of Great Bend, Kansas; one sister, Leona Jenisch of Odin, Kansas; twenty-seven grandchildren; thirty-five great-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren. Gertrude was preceded in death by a son Raymond Rziha; a daughter, Carolyn Rziha; five brothers, John Schneweis, Wilhelm Schneweis, Father Emil Schneweis, Lawrence Schneweis and Leonard Schneweis; five sisters, Gabriella Habiger, Anna Schneweis, Sister Pauline Schneweis, Christina Demel and Mathilda Boor; and one granddaughter Carrie Rziha. An Altar Society Rosary will be a 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 24, 2008 and a Vigil Service at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 24, 2008 at Bryant Funeral Home, Great Bend. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, January 25, 2008 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Great Bend, Kansas with Father Reginald A. Urban and Father Pascal Klein officiating. Interment will be at 2:30 p.m. at Holy Family Cemetery, Odin, Kansas. Memorials are suggested to the Holy Family Cemetery Fund, Odin, Kansas or Holy Family School Endowment Fund, Great Bend, Kansas in care of the funeral home.
