Gertrude H. Hickel, age 98, died Tuesday September 17, 2013 at The Regent Senior Living in Wichita, Kansas. She was born August 29, 1915 at Ellinwood, Kansas the daughter of Robert A. and Emma P. (Zecha) Hickel. Gertrude graduated from Claflin High School and lived most of her adult life in Wichita, Kansas. She was employed by Kansas State Bank in Wichita for twenty-two years until she retired. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and altar society in Claflin. She enjoyed traveling, baking, sewing, and playing cards. Survivors include one brother: Vernon Hickel of Anchorage, Alaska; three sisters: Viola McCafferty of Wichita, Kansas, Patty Degner-Keenan of Great Bend, Kansas, Jeanette Parnall of Clintonville, Wisconsin. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers: Walter J. Hickel, Elmer Hickel, Robert E. Hickel; two sisters: Catherine Stalker, and Maxine Hickel. Mass of Christian burial will be held 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 21, 2013 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Claflin with Father Donald Debes as celebrant. Burial will follow at Claflin Cemetery. Friends may call Friday, September 20, 2013 from 10:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. with a vigil service followed by an altar society rosary beginning at 7:00 p.m. at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home in Hoisington, Kansas.
