Freda M. Hitz, 88, died September 16, 2008 at Hospital District #1 of Rice County, Lyons, Kansas. She was born August 22, 1920 at Toronto, Kansas, the daughter of A. P. and Ora Elsie (Martin) Wootton. She married Albert Roof September 13, 1938 at Fredonia, Kansas. He preceded her in death. She then married Howard Hitz January 29, 1972 at Great Bend, Kansas. He died in 1982. A resident of Lyons since 1982, coming from Great Bend, Mrs. Hitz was a dietary cook for Central Kansas Medical Center before retiring. Mrs. Hitz was of the Christian faith. Survivors include one daughter, Mary Stone and husband, Jay, Lyons, Kansas; one sister, Lola Drake, Pueblo, Colorado; four grandchildren: Bill Anthony, Lyons, Kansas; Justin Anthony, McPherson, Kansas; Tyler Stone, Lawrence, Kansas; and Robert Alvarado, Walcott, Iowa; three great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three brothers: Elmer Wootton, Everett Wootton, and Don Wootton; and four sisters: Elsie Smith, Pearl Felkins, Opal Faulk, and Doris Puckett. Funeral service will be at 2:30 p.m., Saturday, September 20, 2008 at Bryant Funeral Home with the Reverend William F. Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Great Bend Cemetery. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., Friday, September 19, 2008 and from 9:00 a.m. to service time, Saturday, September 20, 2008 at Bryant Funeral Home. Memorials in Mrs. Hitz's name are requested to the American Cancer Society, in care of the funeral home.
