Evelyn E. Schartz, 88, died February 3, 2010 at Woodhaven Care Center, Ellinwood, Kansas. She was born May 31, 1921 at Stafford County, Kansas, the daughter of Paul and Bertha (Langrehr) Burhenn. She married Malvern P. Schartz July 18, 1940 at Barton County, Kansas. He died December 22, 1987. A lifetime Barton County resident, Mrs. Schartz was a homemaker. Mrs. Schartz was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, the Altar Society, and Daughters of Isabella, all of Ellinwood, Kansas. Survivors include four daughters: Darlene Jenisch, Ellinwood, Kansas; Joan Brown and husband Gary, Raymond, Kansas; Connie Grossardt and husband Roger, Claflin, Kansas; and Karen Jamison, Bothell, Washington; two brothers: Irvin Burhenn, El Dorado, Kansas; and Virgil Burhenn, Great Bend, Kansas; one sister, Flossie Dewey, Great Bend; twelve grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, Alvin Schartz; one brother, Vernon Burhenn; one sister, Luella Schwager; and one great-granddaughter, Makinna Krebaum. Altar Society Rosary will be at 3:00 p.m., and a vigil service will be at 7:00 p.m., Sunday, February 7, 2010 at Bryant Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m., Monday, February 8, 2010 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Ellinwood. Father Charles Mazouch will be celebrant. Burial will be in Lakin-Comanche District Cemetery, Ellinwood. Friends may call from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m., Saturday, February 6, 2010 and from 1:00 to 9:00 p.m., Sunday, February 7, 2010, all at Bryant Funeral Home. Memorials are requested to St. Joseph Catholic Church or the Makinna Ann Hope Foundation, in care of the funeral home.
