Emelia "Millie" Holmes, 90, went to be with the Lord on October 1, 2009 at the Hospice House of Reno County, Hutchinson, Kansas. She was born October 20, 1918 at Otis, Kansas, the daughter of George J., Jr., and Katherine Elizabeth (Albrant) Wittman. She married Louis Vernon Holmes August 16, 1954 at Great Bend, Kansas. He died February 3, 2001. A homemaker, Mrs. Holmes worked for Fuller Brush Company for ten years. She was a resident of Great Bend most of her life, coming from Bazine, Kansas. Mrs. Holmes was a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church, Great Bend. Survivors include one brother, Benny Wittman, Denver, Colorado; and two sisters: Marie Schenkel and Lydia Blehm, both of Great Bend, Kansas; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by six brothers, Ted Wittman, Jake Wittman, Herman Wittman, August "Gus" Wittman, Bill Wittman, and Rueben Wittman; and one sister, Maria Wittman. Funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m., Monday, October 5, 2009 at St. Mark Lutheran Church. The Reverend Adam Wutka will officiate. Burial will be in Great Bend Cemetery. Friends may call from 1:00 to 9:00 p.m., Sunday, October 4, 2009, with the family receiving friends from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m., at Bryant Funeral Home. Memorials are requested to the National Down Syndrome Society in honor of Kadin White, in care of the funeral home.
