Dorothy O. Soden, 92, died August 21, 2013 at Great Bend Health and Rehabilitation Center, Great Bend, Kansas. She was born January 24, 1921 at Clay Center, Kansas, the daughter of Richard A. and Dorthea J. (Obenland) Brueggemann. She married Carl Soden December 21, 1946 at Mission, Kansas. He died May 8, 2008. A Great Bend resident since 1949, coming from Coffeyville, Kansas, Mrs. Soden was a teacher for Morganville, Clay Center, Parsons, Topeka, Coffeyville, St. Patrick Catholic School and Great Bend Public Schools. Mrs. Soden was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church, Delta Kappa Gamma, Barton County Association of Retired School Personnel, and Sigma Sigma Sigma. Survivors include one daughter, Doris Butler, M. D., Wichita, Kansas; one sister, Doris M. Wingerson, Portland, Oregon; and four grandchildren, Erica, Karen Beth, Kirsten, and Derek. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Sara Johann "Sally" Soden. Graveside memorial service will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 24, 2013 at Great Bend Cemetery. Father Mark W. Cowell will officiate. Inurnment will be in Great Bend Cemetery. Memorials are requested to St. John's Episcopal Church or USD 428 Foundation to benefit Riley School Success for All Program, in care of the funeral home.
