Dorothy R. O'Connell, 98, died September 8, 2012 at Cherry Village Nursing Home, Great Bend, Kansas. She was born March 10, 1914 at Bison, Kansas, the daughter of Harvey Robert and Grace Maude (Crotinger) Timken. She married Earl Ronald O'Connell June 4, 1936 at Bison. He died August 21, 2001. A lifetime Great Bend resident, Mrs. O'Connell was a homemaker. Mrs. O'Connell was a member of First United Methodist Church and Great Bend Garden Club. She was an avid bridge player, a sixty-year breast cancer survivor, and was active in the Reach for Recovery organization. Survivors include two daughters: Kay Durheim and her husband Harold, Overland Park, Kansas; and Janet Schremmer and her husband Alan, Great Bend; four grandchildren: Michael Durheim, Katherine Durheim, Lori Schremmer, and Denise Schremmer; two great-grandchildren: Melissa Terryberry and Finnley Schremmer; and two great-great-grandchildren: Austin Terryberry and Zoe Terryberry. She was preceded in death by one sister, Louise Elizabeth Steinert. Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m., Wednesday, September 12, 2012 at First United Methodist Church. The Reverend Lennie Maxwell will officiate. Burial will be in Great Bend Cemetery. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 11, 2012 at Bryant Funeral Home. Memorials are requested to First United Methodist Church or Hospice Care of Kansas, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.
