Dorothy Mae Moses Morrison, Age 96, died April 15, 2008, in Great Bend, Barton County. She was born March 11, 1912, to Earl C. and Mae Moses (a member of the fourth generation of this pioneer family). She attended the Great Bend schools, graduating from Great Bend High School May 21, 1930. Dorothy was an enthusiastic participant in many school activities including: The Glee Club, Pepperettes, the Junior and Senior play and the Operetta, "Up in the Air", which according to the 1930 Rhorea was the biggest event of the school year. She was also a member of the Girl Reserve whose motto was "to find and give the best." That was to define Dorothy's life. Her post-highschool education included training for a music career received at a Conservatory in the Eastern United States. In 1934, Mrs. Morrison was the first initiate in Great Bend into the DU Chapter of PEO, a cherished memory of Dorothy, with her membership lasting until her death. She was also a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ, an active participant in the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), a member of the Athenian Club, Parnasus, and the American Legion Auxiliary. Dorothy was an intense patriot with loyalty to Great Bend, and always a strong believer and supporter of traditional American values. August 24, 1932, she married Wayne Lewis Morrison. He died May 2, 1968, two children were born to Wayne and Dorothy; Sally (Mrs. Dale Scheideman), and Clayton Moses, III. Both predeceased Dorothy. Surviving are seven grandchildren: Kimberly Fountain, Gladstone, Missouri; Mark Morrison, Wichita, Kansas; Kyle Morrison, Salina, Kansas; Marla Morrison Phillips, Kansas City, Missouri; Steve Scheideman, Argyle, Texas; JB Morrison, Topeka, Kansas; Clinton Morrison, Brentwood, Texas. Mrs. Morrison was honored by Barton County Community College in 2003 with the College Distinguished Service Award. In stating it's strong appreciation, gratitude was expressed especially, for her endowment and gift to Barton County Community College of The Dorothy Moses Morrison Chapel. Mrs. Morrison always credited her attitude and philosophy to the late 19th and 20th centuries: Faith in God; exemplifying high moral purposes; strong patriotics; living a strong work ethic, and believing in and seeking the best education. She was able to visit and admire the finished Dorothy Moses Morrison Chapel prior to its dedication. She was obviously deeply moved and pleased as she looked at the various beautiful windows. She identified several who had donated the windows to the church so many years ago. Funeral Services for Dorothy Moses Morrison will be held Monday, April 21, 2008, at 10:00 a.m., at The Dorothy Moses Morrison Chapel, Barton County Community College, Great Bend, Kansas, with The Reverend Diana Coberly officiating.
