Dorothy Mae Dawson, 88, died March 25, 2015, at Almost Home Inc. in Great Bend. She was born June 25, 1926, at Great Bend, the daughter of Robert John and Mary Ethel (Davidson) Herren. She was a secretary and bookkeeper for the Great Bend Herald Press. She then was a bookkeeper and co-owner of Dorrels Jewelry from 1953 to 1960 and Dawson Jewelers Inc. from 1961 to 1990. Dorothy was a lifetime Great Bend resident. She enjoyed NASCAR, clock collecting, genealogy, and was an animal lover. Survivors include two sons Dana Dawson and his wife Diana of Great Bend, and Kent Dawson and his wife Kelli of Tampa, Florida; their father, Charles Dawson; and three granddaughters, Rebecca Dawson, Kelsey Dawson, and Karlie Dawson. She was preceded in death by one brother, Robert Herren, and two sisters, Mary Jane Herren and Florence Richards. A private family service will be held with inurnment in the Great Bend Cemetery. There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. Memorials are requested to the Great Bend Zoological Society, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.
