Donald Dale Simonson, 81, died May 1, 2007, at Central Kansas Medical Center, Great Bend, Kansas. Donald was born July 23, 1925 at Lyons, Kansas, to Dale and Jeanette Sleeper Simonson. Donald was a lifetime resident of Great Bend and a graduate of Great Bend High School, Class of 1942. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and attended Officers training at Miami University and Oberlin College in Ohio. He was a real estate agent in Kansas and Colorado. On September 8, 1948, he married Beverly Chaffin at Great Bend. She survives. He grew up in the Presbyterian Church. He was a former member of the Great Bend Board of Realtors, Kiwanis Club, Lions Club and past President of the Great Bend Chamber of Commerce. Survivors include: his wife, Beverly of the home; two sons, Steve Simonson of Pagosa Springs, Colorado and Michael Simonson of Las Vegas, Nevada; two daughters, Debbie Hughes of Las Vegas, Nevada and Kim Wiens of Great Bend, Kansas; two brothers, Ray Simonson of Marshall, Missouri and Ralph Simonson of Leesburg, Florida; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild. A Memorial Service will be at 3:00 p.m., Friday, May 4, 2007, at First United Methodist Church, Great Bend, Kansas with the Reverend Gary Brooks presiding. There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the Golden Belt Community Foundation for the benefit of Great Bend Parks Department in care of the funeral home.
