Don C. Appel, 70, died August 14, 2011 at Wesley Towers Thorne Care Center, Hutchinson. He was born February 8, 1941 at Great Bend, the son of David and Marie Margaret (Behrens) Appel. He married Karen Townsdin November 4, 1962 at Dodge City. Mr. Appel was owner and operator of Dons Welding. He was a Great Bend resident since 1962, coming from Pawnee Rock. He served in the Kansas National Guard. He was a member of Peace Lutheran Church and enjoyed racing, animals, snow skiing and football. Survivors include his wife, Karen, of the home; a son Mike Appel and fiancee Kim, Hutchinson; two daughters, Gayle Fellin, Denver, Colo.; and Janell Crosley and husband Jason, Hutchinson; and four grandchildren. A prayer service is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 17 at Bryant Funeral Home. A funeral service is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Thursday, August 18, at Peace Lutheran Church, south of Albert, with Officiant Pastor Patricia Reep. Interment will be at Peace Lutheran Church Cemetery, Albert. Visitation is scheduled from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Wednesday, with the family receiving friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at Bryant Funeral Home.
