Dixie D. Abbott, 89, died November 11, 1919 at Promise Regional Medical Center, Hutchinson, Kansas. She was born August 17, 1919 at Phillipsburg, Kansas, the daughter of Glen and Lila (Smith) Lane. She married Stewart N. Abbott March 27, 1947 at Phillipsburg. He died February 21, 2006. A longtime Claflin, Kansas, resident, coming from Plainville and Phillipsburg, Kansas, Mrs. Abbott worked in the postal service in Plainville and was a school bus driver at the Claflin school system. She retired in 1981. Mrs. Abbott was a member of the United Methodist Church and the UMW, both of Claflin. She was the supervising judge for Independent Township and Barton County elections. Survivors include two daughters: Diane Kreft and husband, Leonard, Great Bend, Kansas; and Kathy Abbott, Salina, Kansas; one brother, Alden Lane, Greeley, Colorado; one sister, Gwen Funston, Topeka, Kansas; two grandchildren: Terry Kreft and wife, Amy; and Dana Dallen and husband, Richard; and five great-grandchildren: Brittny, Taylor, and Krista Dallen and Trustin and Alyssa Kreft. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Irwin Lane and Loren Lane. Memorial services will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, November 15, 2008 at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home with the Reverend Gene Langhofer officiating. There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. Memorials are requested to the Claflin Ambulance Fund or the Claflin Library, both in care of the funeral home.
