Dennis M. Simmons, 63, died April 21, 2009 in Stafford County, Kansas. He was born February 28, 1946 at San Francisco, California, the son of Howard E. and Ethel (King) Simmons. He married Susan Dewey March 26, 1977 at Pampa, Texas. A resident of Radium, Kansas, since 1999, coming from Great Bend, Mr. Simmons was an oilfield truck driver, Stafford County Firefighter and Radium Fire Chief. He was a disabled veteran of the Viet Nam War serving with the United States Army. Mr. Simmons was a member of the Vietnam Vets Motorcycle Club, an avid NASCAR fan and a former state champion stock car driver. He was known to have many interests including horses and motorcycles. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Survivors include his wife, Susan Simmons, of the home; two sons, Philip Simmons and wife, Jackie, Gibson, Louisiana; and Harold Simmons and financee, Aliaza, Belton, Missouri; one daughter, Brandie McKay and husband, Bill, Lee's Summit, Missouri; one brother, Dale Simmons, Vacaville, California; and six grandchildren: Jessica Simmons, Kristopher Simmons, Brandon Simmons, Ashley Simmons, Tre Simmons, and Cale McKay. He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard E. and Ethel Simmons; and one brother, Harold Simmons. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, April 25, 2009 at Bryant Funeral Home. Military honors will be conducted by Kansas National Guard, Topeka, Kansas; and the Fire Department Honors will also be conducted. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., Friday, April 24, 2009 at Bryant Funeral Home. Memorials are requested to the Stafford County Fireman's Relief Fund, in care of the funeral home.
